How hard was the wind blowing in Colorado’s mountains Wednesday night?
Wind speed reached nearly 100 mph at one resort

High winds pummeled Colorado’s mountains Wednesday evening, causing howling gusts and power outages in some parts of the state.
Just how fast was the wind whipping though? On top of one mountain, gusts reached nearly 100 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
In Steamboat Springs, wind on top of Mt. Werner, or Steamboat Resort, hit 65 mph around 9 p.m. The winds were moving at 40 mph or more for about five hours between 5:30-10:30 p.m.
Further south, in Summit County, Keystone Mountain recorded wind speed of 98 mph shortly before 8 p.m. The wind speed was measured at 40 mph or above from 4:30-9:30 p.m.
On top of Breckenridge Ski Resort, wind hit 73 mph at 9 p.m. The wind was measured at 40 mph or greater from 1 p.m. Wednesday until 6 a.m. Thursday.
Just west, wind hit 54 mph on Vail Mountain at 9 p.m. Wind was strongest 6-11 p.m. there. At Winter Park, winds hit a speed of 85 at 6:45 p.m., with winds remaining at 40 mph or above from 5:45-11 p.m.
Bureau of Land Management nets over $4.8 million in Colorado oil and gas lease sale
The Bureau of Land Management’s third quarter oil and gas lease sale on Thursday, Sept. 10 amassed around $4.88 million as the agency leased 14,212 acres in Arapahoe, Jackson, Moffat, Rio Blanco, Routt and Weld counties.
