Copper Mountain Resort hosted its fifth annual Ski Conservation Summit on Wednesday, July 23.

The event brought together nearly 100 attendees — the largest turnout to date — to discuss land conservation methods. The summit included sustainability representatives from over a dozen ski resorts including Copper, Winter Park, Steamboat, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Vail Resorts, Sunlight, Eldora, Aspen Snowmass, Snowbird, Sun Valley, Mt. Bachelor and Alta.

The annual event serves as a platform to spark new conversations within the outdoor recreation industry while also uniting resort operators, land managers, nonprofits, public agencies, academic experts and citizens.

This year’s summit featured a lineup of impactful presentations, including keynote speakers from The Nature Conservancy and Adventure Scientists. Sustainability leaders from Vail Resorts, Sun Valley and Alta highlighted current initiatives, while researchers from the University of Vermont and University of Colorado Boulder presented their work in environmental science.

Attendees also got the chance to visit the site of Copper’s ongoing carbon sequestration study, a 10-year research partnership with Dr. Jennie DeMarco studying the most effective restoration methods for our ski slopes.
