After a two-week-closure due to a major rockslide, Summit County officials are planning to reopen Dillon Dam Road on Tuesday, April 15.

Officials announced in a Monday social media post that maintenance and clearing operations were 95% complete. The town has plans to reopen the road and adjacent recpath in the morning Tuesday.

The plans are still dependent on weather conditions, and officials say they will monitor conditions before making the call to reopen.

A rock slide on March 31 dumped thousands of tons of rock debris on Dillon Dam in what officials believe was the largest slide on the road in 30 years.

Since then, a mitigation crew worked to stabilize the area, removing unstable rocks above the road after which point a coalition of government teams hauled the debris away.

Rockslides are not an uncommon occurrence in the High Country this time of year as the freeze-thaw cycle can cause instability in rock faces. The Dam Road was shut down for a slide this time last year, a closure that lasted for about a week.
