Geotechnical work requires brief road closures near Montgomery Reservoir

Colorado Springs Utilities will be conducting geotechnical work near Montgomery Reservoir beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The work will require intermittent closures of the Upper 6 Road near the Wheeler Lake trailhead parking lot through October.
The road closures are expected to last no more than 15 minutes in duration and are necessary for transporting drilling equipment to the job site. The work is part of pre-permitting activities for a proposed project to enlarge the reservoir, which stores drinking water for Colorado Springs.
Additionally, one lane of Upper 6 Road near the dam will be closed Sept. 15-18. Traffic flaggers will be present during that time to safely move traffic past drilling activities. The Lower Reservoir Road, which is the utility’s private access road to the spillway, will be closed.
Additional geotechnical work will occur through mid-November that will not impact public access roads or other recreational activities near the reservoir.
Questions or concerns can be directed to projectinfo@csu.org or (719) 668-8504.
