Forest Service seeks comments on chairlift replacement at Keystone

The White River National Forest is seeking public comments on Keystone Resort’s proposal to replace the A-51 Chairlift with a modern, detachable quad chairlift.

The current A-51 lift is a fixed-grip, double chair that began operations in 1976. Keystone is proposing to upgrade the lift to a detachable quad in hopes of increasing uphill capacity and providing a better guest experience.

The replacement lift would have the capacity to to carry approximately 2,400 people per hour. The lift would also follow the same alignment as the preexisting lift. The lift would support Keystone’s pod of terrain parks as well as a multitude of teaching trails.

Keystone Resort operates on the White River National Forest under a special-use permit. The replacement of the chairlift is within Keystone’s permitted area.

More information, including the proposal and how to comment, is available at Fs.Usda.gov. Comments will be most helpful if received by Oct. 31, 2025.
