Wildfire go-bag

It’s wildfire season in Colorado, and officials say residents and visitors should be ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice. Here’s what the American Red Cross suggests packing in a wildfire go-bag:

  • Three-day supply of nonperishable food and water, with one gallon per person per day
  • First aid kit and sanitation supplies, including toilet paper and baby wipes
  • Flashlight, battery-powered radio and extra batteries
  • Personal electronic devices and chargers
  • An extra set of car keys, credit cards and cash
  • Extra eye glasses, contact lenses, prescriptions and medications
  • Important documents and contact numbers, including insurance documents
  • A printed map marked with evacuation routes in case your phone dies

ICE detention

Immigrant advocacy nonprofit Mountain Dreamers confirmed that an individual was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Wildernest on June 27. The Mountain Dreamers executive director said the group would arrange and pay for an emergency legal consultation for the detained individual.

Primary election

Summit School District Board of Education President Consuelo Redhorse narrowly won the Democratic nomination for House District 13 by fewer than 200 votes. Of the district’s six counties, Redhorse won in four: Grand, Park, Lake and Summit. In November’s general election, she is set to face Republican challenger Miguel Martinez as the two vie for the seat left vacant by Democrat Julie McCluskie, the outgoing speaker of the house. McCluskie can’t run again due to term limits.
