Frisco housing

Frisco is considering creating a new housing covenant for the community’s deed-restricted properties. The top issues being discussed are whether owners of workforce housing should be allowed to own multiple properties, whether lotteries should be used to sell deed-restricted properties, and whether the town should implement a new appreciation cap on a deed-restricted home’s resale value. Anyone who owns deed-restricted housing could choose to opt into the new covenant, if one is passed.

Regional challenges

At a recent bilingual speaker series event in Glenwood Springs, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser addressed some of the Western Slope’s most pressing challenges, including mental health, immigration and addiction. He brought the discussion on mental health and addiction back to what he called a “connection crisis” driven by excessive social media use. When it comes to some of the fear immigrant communities are experiencing, Weiser said he supports an immigration system that “operates under the rule of law, in a sensible way, that treats people as people.”

Passenger rail

As part of an effort to revive passenger rail in Colorado, daily train service between Denver and Granby is set to begin late next year. The first phase will be a morning commuter train from Denver’s Union Station to the Granby station, then a trip back to Denver in the evening. Future phases of the project aim to extend the passenger train line to the Yampa Valley, offering service to Steamboat Springs and Craig.
