Land owner blocks access to Goose Pasture Tarn as town of Blue River attempts to strike new agreement for town residents

The Goose Pasture Tarn in Blue River provides recreational opportunities exclusively for town residents, but boulders have blocked the access to the small body of water since mid-July.
Blue River Trustee Jodie Willey wrote in a statement to Summit Daily that the land surrounding the tarn, including the road, parking area and shoreline, is private land. The owner closed access recently, she wrote, and the town is working with the owner on an “updated agreement to restore access to residents of Blue River.”
“Restoring access is a top priority for the Board,” Willey wrote. “We’re optimistic that a new agreement can be reached, and Trustee (Jonathon) Heckman has been appointed to work directly with the landowner to find a respectful and timely solution.”
The tarn is owned by the Town of Breckenridge, according to Willey, but Blue River has rights for its residents to recreate on its surface. The owner of the surrounding property has “generously allowed” residents to cross their property to access the tarn for years, Willey wrote, but it is “within their legal rights” to restrict that access.
