Leadville will be hosting its 78th annual Ski Joring event March 7–8.
The high-energy competition features horses pulling skiers through a course of gates, jumps and rings on Harrison Avenue. The event is free and open to all ages.
The event starts at 9 a.m. on both Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7, with the Calcutta auction at the announcer stand on Harrison Avenue. The national anthem will be sung at noon both days to kick off the competitions for “open,” “sport” and “novice” divisions. The award ceremony will follow immediately after at the Elks Club at 123 W. 5th St.
No pre-registration is available for the 2026 event. Registration will begin on Friday, March 6, at 6 p.m. for both Saturday and Sunday’s event. Registration can also be done for Sunday’s event following the award ceremony on Saturday. Those interested can register at the Elks Lodge. For questions or to express intent to participate, contact Duffy Counsell at duffycounsell@gmail.com.
There are no dogs or drones allowed at the event.
