At a creek crossing on Miner’s Creek Road, a rock punctured a car’s oil pan on June 22, and oil started leaking into the creek.

Crews from Summit Fire & EMS and Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District responded to clean up. High Country Training Center Capt. Eric Johnson wrote in an email that it is rare for a hazmat response to lead firefighters into the wilderness, but responders cleaned up about 5 quarts of oil from the creek near Frisco with absorbent pads and brooms.

“It was a successful team effort,” Johnson wrote.

The incident occurred at the third river crossing, about a mile up the trail, according to Johnson.
