Pedestrian dies after crash on Colorado Highway 9 between Frisco, Breckenridge
A 59-year-old man died Tuesday night in a crash on Colorado Highway 9 that involved a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The man, from Colorado Springs, was crossing the highway near mile point 90 between Frisco and Breckenridge, according to Colorado State Patrol Trooper Sherri Mendez. A 35-year-old man from Black Hawk driving a Ford Mustang northbound hit the pedestrian.
While the incident is under investigation, Mendez said preliminary findings show the driver braked before impact, the pedestrian crossed in front of the vehicle and that the pedestrian was at fault for the crash.
Colorado State Patrol and the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Summit County Coroner’s Office will identify the pedestrian after notifying his next of kin, Mendez said.
