On Tuesday night, Nov. 11, a large group of Summit County musicians came together for the Salute to Veterans concert at Summit Middle School.

Taking place on Veterans Day, musicians of all ages converged in order to honor all of those who have served in a branch of the U.S. military.

Throughout the one-hour performance, musicians from the Summit Concert Band, Summit High School symphonic band, orchestra, and choral program, along with select Summit Middle School band and choir students, performed a diverse set of pieces.

Each number played homage to all of those who have served, including those who have lost their lives in battle. Near the end of the concert, veterans that were in attendance for the event were honored for their service.

Retired Capt. Stuart “Boot” Gordon, who celebrated his 101st birthday early this year, was one of the veterans that was applauded at the concert. Gordon specifically drew a standing ovation for his service in World War II as an U.S. Air Force fighter pilot.

The concert also featured a bake sale where of all of the proceeds went to benefit the Tri-M Music Honor Society members at Summit High School. The money will be used to attend Tri-M Leadership Day. Current Summit High School Tri-M Music Honor members include Satori Adnan, Sawyer Bovaird, Katherine Eldredge, Amadou Kane and Sonnett Renoux.
