The Summit High School boys soccer team has gained its first win under first year head coach Julio Mora.
After opening the season with five losses, Summit hosted Basalt High School in a non-league match on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Following the first 40-minute half, Summit trailed 1-0, leading many Summit fans to wonder if the team was going to drop a sixth-straight game.
Summit remained determined though, eventually tying the game in the second half. Wanting to record its first dash in the win column, Summit pursued the net with a vengeance. The Tigers’ determination resulted in senior Nelson Vazquez Rojas netting the game winner, successfully defeating Basalt, 2-1.
The win moves Summit’s record to 1-5 overall. Summit will now prepare for two more home games over the next week and a half. The Tigers will face Roaring Fork on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m. before taking on Battle Mountain High on Thursday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m.
