Summit County athletes named to USA Skimo team rosters ahead of winter season

On Thursday, Oct. 2, U.S. Ski Mountaineering Association (USA Skimo) announced the athletes that are being named to its roster ahead of the 2025-26 winter season.
Among the list of senior and junior-level athletes are six Summit County-based athletes.
Making up one-third of the women’s senior B team is Breckenridge’s Brooke Scott Haynes. Haynes will be joined on the team by Leadville’s Gwen Rudy and Ophir’s Kelly Wolf. The men’s senior B team will be comprised of two Summit County athletes in Frisco’s Arthur Whitehead and Breckenridge’s John Rauen.
Grace Staberg will be the sole athlete to represent Summit County on the women’s senior D team. USA Skimo’s junior D team will feature two Summit High School students in junior Ashley Adkins and senior Finn Brown.
USA Skimo’s head coach will be Oscar Angeloni with the assistant coach being Milan Kubala.
The U.S. Ski Mountaineering team will kick off the season in Solitude, Utah, from Dec. 6-7. At the competition, athletes will be chasing after the final quota spots for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Heading into the Olympic year, the U.S. has yet to qualify a single athlete to the winter games. According to an article written by Team USA, USA Skimo’s best chance of qualifying for the Olympics is in the mixed relay.
Ski mountaineering will make its debut at the 2026 Winter Olympics with a men’s and women’s sprint race and a mixed relay race.
