Summit County residents shine at 6th annual Pickle in the Peaks tournament

Pickleball continues to be the sport of the decade. After seeing an uptick in participation around the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the sport has only continued to grow, with many previously unused spaces now being transformed into pickleball courts.

Summit County locals have thrown themselves into the game. The community not only boasts its own pickleball organization, the Summit County Pickleball Association, but it also hosts two tournaments each year.

Following the success of the Pickle in the Snowy Peaks tournament earlier this year, the Summit County Pickleball Association held its sixth annual Pickle in the Peaks tournament from Thursday, July 17, through Saturday, July 19.



The competition drew 145 teams and over 250 players, with many local competitors winning medals, including two Summit High School students in Men’s 3.0. According to event organizer, Julie Worthington, the event featured a 70-plus category for the first time thanks to high local demand. 

The results for all divisions were as follows:
