Swan Mountain Road construction and closures continue

Matt Hutcheson/Summit Daily News
After two weeks of partial and full closures this month, Swan Mountain Road construction is continuing this week and, tentatively, into August. Summit County’s information page for the road states that full and partial closures could go through Aug. 9.
The closure July 21-23 is a full closure, meaning both lanes are closed, between Summit Cove, near where the road meets U.S. Highway 6, and the Lowry Campground, according to the county website. The road closed Monday, July 21, at 7 a.m. and will be completely closed, even outside of construction hours, until Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m.
Work during those three days will involve culvert replacement. Cyclists have to use the recreation path during construction, and traffic going to the Lowry, Prospector and Windy Point campgrounds can access them from the other side of Swan Mountain Road from Colorado Highway 9.
On July 24, one lane will open between Summit Cove and the Lowry Campground, and traffic will alternate between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Grading work done from July 24-28 will allow for both lanes to be open overnight.
The county website states that a tentative full closure from July 29 to Aug. 9 would involve guardrail replacement, but it states the closure dates and times are subject to change. The closure would be from a Monday at 7 a.m. to a Wednesday at 7 p.m., the website states.
