Swan Mountain Road construction to pause for Labor Day weekend

Matt Hutcheson/Summit Daily News
Swan Mountain Road has seen partial and full closures since July, but construction will pause Aug. 30 to Sept. 1 for the Labor Day weekend, and the road will be fully open.
The road will see single-lane closures Aug. 18-22 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day while crews complete grading work from the Lowry Campground to Sapphire Point.
From Aug. 25-29, Swan Mountain Road will have a full closure from Lowry Campground to Sapphire Point. The closure will allow crews to pave the road and will start at 7 a.m. Aug. 25 and end at 7 p.m. Aug. 29.
Crews will work on guardrail replacement during both closures, and campground access will be from U.S. Highway 6 on the north end of Swan Mountain Road. Cyclists will have to dismount at the recreation path crossing.
After the Labor Day weekend break, the road will see a full closure from Summit Cove, where the road meets Highway 6, and Sapphire Point. That closure will start at 7 a.m. Sept. 2 and end at 7 p.m. Sept. 5.
The Summit County website states more information for cyclists and campers during the Sept. 2-5 closure will be shared later.
The full project will continue into October, weather permitting, according to the website. Visit SummitCountyCo.gov/swan or text SWANMTN to 888777 for further updates. Text SWANESP to 888777 for updates in Spanish.
