Last week, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office investigated texts a man sent after a woman was not interested in a second date, arrested a woman with multiple warrants during a traffic stop and responded to a report of teens dragging a broken grill behind a car.
The following incidents occurred between Monday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 19, according to the weekly log of notable calls published by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
On Oct. 13, a woman in unincorporated Summit County reported getting several concerning text messages from a man following a first date. She decided she was not interested in pursuing anything further after the first date and let him know in a text message, and the man asked for more details about her decision. Despite her asking him to stop contacting her, he continued and became rude and aggressive, making her uncomfortable. The messages were unsettling but did not meet the standard for domestic violence charges. Deputies took a report in case the situation escalated, and the woman assured them she was taking precautions to stay safe.
Two roommates in unincorporated Breckenridge got into a verbal and physical altercation Oct. 13 over a messy apartment and dirty dishes. It began verbally and escalated when one roommate threw dishes and shoes. No one was injured in the fight, but the roommates gave differing accounts of the events that led up to it. Neither wanted to press charges, and they agreed to stay away from each other for the evening.
A deputy initiated a traffic stop Oct. 13 after noticing a vehicle with expired license plates. They ran the plates through the criminal database system and found out the driver had two active warrants for her arrest on charges including felony drug possession. While arresting the woman, deputies found drug paraphernalia in the vehicle, as well as evidence of drug use. They impounded the vehicle, pending further investigation, and took the woman to the county jail without incident.
Medical personnel took a man to the emergency room Oct. 15 after he was found intoxicated at a grocery store. The man became uncooperative at the emergency room, grabbing at two nurses, throwing his urine at another and spitting at officers. Deputies discovered the clearly intoxicated man was under a court order prohibiting him from possessing or consuming alcohol, so they arrested him and took him to the county jail on charges including violation of a restraining order, harassment and assault.
While arguing with her partner Oct. 15, a woman locked herself in the bedroom. Her partner forced his way into the bedroom to secure a firearm that was inside “due to some things that were said,” and then he called for help. Deputies arrived, conducted an investigation and found no evidence of a crime. They offered resources, and the couple agreed that they felt safe staying in the home together.
A man reported Oct. 16 that he saw two juveniles drag a broken grill down the road using a chain attached to a vehicle and dump it on the side of the road. Deputies searched their system for the vehicle and found its owner, which led them to the suspects. The driver admitted to dumping the grill but was evasive on the details, but his father was cooperative. The father agreed to remove the discarded grill and handle discipline for the incident in lieu of a summons.
While on patrol in Silverthorne on Oct. 17, an animal control officer observed two dogs running into traffic on Colorado Highway 9. They pulled over and attempted to secure the dogs by using treats to lure them away from the road. They transported both dogs to the shelter, where they were checked for microchips. The shelter contacted their owners, and they came for their dogs later that day.
A former couple caught up at a bar Oct. 17 before going back to the woman’s house. When they arrived, she changed her mind and asked the man to leave. He refused and entered the house against her will. The woman trying to get him to leave led to a physical and verbal altercation, partially witnessed by a roommate. Deputies investigated, placed the man under arrest and took him to the county jail for domestic violence and trespassing.
A woman on Oct. 17 reported an unknown person rummaged through her belongings in her car, moving things from the backseat into the trunk, when she was parked at the Summit County Animal Shelter. She said nothing appeared stolen or damaged, but she said the intruder left a wallet and TV remote. In a separate incident at the same location, a man reported seeing an unknown person park behind his vehicle. He said the person got out, closed the trunk of his car, which he had left open, walked to his driver’s side door and opened it. This confused him, and the person seemed surprised to see him in the car. He asked if they were alright, and they said they were fine, apologized and then left in their vehicle. The next day, deputies identified the wallet’s owner and reviewed surveillance footage. The suspect claimed they thought they were in their own vehicle when they were rifling through the items in the first car. The person said they felt out of it, did not fully remember what had happened and did not remember talking to the man at all. Deputies issued the suspect a summons for trespassing and tampering.
