Michael Scopel started his business, The Retro Station, by going door-to-door offering auto detailing work. From these humble origins, Scopel has managed to grow the business to offer other services, like windshield replacement, and multiple locations, including in Silverthorne, Glenwood Springs, Windsor and an upcoming location in Colorado Springs. The Silverthorne location, his first, has been open for nearly five years.

Scopel credits his business’ growth to his focus on providing exceptional customer service. His work landed him accolades in the Best Of Summit contest, where he won Best Detailing Service and was named a finalist for Best Windshield Replacement/Auto Glass Company.

“I make sure to cater to the customers, to answer my phone and messages 24/7,” Scopel said. “… We do our best to make sure everyone is happy. It’s not that we’re perfect, but we always take responsibility.”

The Retro Station, Scopel said, also maintains a focus on reasonable pricing in a time when prices of goods and services have been driven higher through inflation.

“Our pricing is more than fair. We have prices that rival big cities. In Summit, (prices) can seem to be inflated, so we focus on keeping prices low and fair, whether through payment plans or reduced deductibles,” Scopel said.

Scopel, a Boulder native who has lived in Summit County for two decades, said he has put down roots and owns a home in Summit, and strives to make sure his employees can do the same.

“It’s so expensive to live here, so we take care of our employees so that they can support their families and buy a home and do what they want to do,” he said.

“It means a lot to see employees go from 20 to 30 (years old) and have families and buy houses,” he added.

The Retro Station is also a family business, with numerous of Scopel’s family members helping to run the various branches.

The Retro Station has expanded to cover “a significant amount of the state,” Scopel said, and caters to everyone from corporate clients who contract the business for preferred service to vacationers in need of detailing or a new windshield while on a ski trip.

“We use a model of next-day service — if you order something on a weekday, we get to you the next day,” Scopel said. “… We have a lot of pride in what we do.”

The Retro Station’s Silverthorne branch is located at 365 Warren Ave. and can be reached at 970-573-8552. Pricing varies. More information about The Retro Station can be found at TheRetroStation.com.
