Deputies and fire personnel are on scene at the small fire about a mile up the Soda Creek Trail, near the Whispering Pines Neighborhood in Summit Cove, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post Friday morning around 8:40 a.m. The fire is close to the intersection of the Soda Creek Trail and Groovi Uvi Trail.

Summit County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Mike Schilling said the wildfire is about 8 feet by 8 feet on U.S. Forest Service property. Despite its small size, the fire is causing “a good plume of smoke,” Schilling said.
No evacuations are being considered at this time. The Sheriff’s Office is asking residents and visitors to find alternative areas to recreate this morning due to the fire.
Emergency personnel also sent out an SC Alert about the wildfire Friday morning. Visit SCAlerts.org to sign up for local emergency alerts.
