Letter to the editor: Silverthorne energy needs aren’t being represented
Silverthorne
I was dismayed to see that Silverthorne Town Council is planning to join the Summit County intergovernmental energy reliability suicide pact.
This resolution to oppose Xcel Energy’s Mountain Energy Project makes many unsupportable assumptions regarding the near and intermediate term energy needs of our community. It will force the average resident of our community to make expensive upgrades to their home electrical system including potential total rewiring of their kitchens and heating systems. All of this based on a totally theoretical dramatic increase in electrical supply to the county. For those of us in Silverthorne who experienced an electrical black out last winter with an outdoor temperature of negative-15 degrees, the prospect of this happening on a regular basis while Colorado undergoes its planned “green energy” transition is not a happy prospect.
The residents of Silverthorne should have a voice in energy policy for our town. The planned resolution needs to be delayed in order to let the residents of our town have a say in our energy safety future.
