BOEC is community treasure

We are so incredibly lucky to have Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) right here in our own community. I am a Colorado native and grew up and started raising my children on the Front Range. I moved to the mountains so I could ski, hike, climb Fourteeners, mountain bike and road bike.I lived and breathed skiing and hiking. It’s who I am. It’s what I do.Then last September I started having problems walking. My physical decline was precipitous. In November I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I can’t walk for very long and have to use my wheelchair or a scooter just to grocery shop. I have poor coordination, poor balance, and massive fatigue. I thought my life was over. I couldn’t ski, hike, bike or anything else. I fell into hopelessness and despair. Then I found BOEC. At the end of the last ski season they started me using a sit-ski on the slopes of Breckenridge. This summer I am handcycling with them. Last weekend I did an MS retreat called Adventures Within during which BOEC took us on a high ropes course, rafting and on a climbing wall. BOEC has given me my life back. They are an incredible organization with incredible people. They are patient, respectful and dedicated. Thanks to Tim, Simon, Erin, Joe, Gene and all the others. Thank you for giving me my mountains back. Thank you for giving me my life back. See you on the bike path!
