The Frisco Elementary School coed soccer team won the High Country Soccer Association Coed Intermediate Recreation League fall championship on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Frisco Elementary defeated Dillon Valley Elementary School in a penalty kick shootout after the game was tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation.

The two cross-county soccer teams had also tied 2-2 in the regular season.

Dillon Valley scored first, but Frisco equalized on a goal by Ezra Lowe right before the end of the first half. About midway into the second half, Frisco striker Blaise Lyman scored on a breakaway to take a 2-1 lead, but Dillon Valley again equalized on a penalty kick late in the game. The teams then readied for a shootout as time expired.

In the penalty kick shootout, Frisco converted its first two attempts and Dillon Valley matched. Frisco missed its third shot, but Frisco goalkeeper Tucker Sonderfan Townsend was able to stop the next two Dillon Valley shots giving Frisco mid-fielder Amelia Schenk a chance to secure the championship for Frisco Elementary. Schenk calmly made her shot, sealing the victory for Frisco Elementary.

The Frisco Elementary School Intermediate soccer team is made up of third, fourth and fifth graders. The team is coached by Jason Berman, Jody Nelson and Angie Viertel.
