Two unique new businesses open in Keystone, Summit County’s newest town

As Keystone heads into its second year being an official town, its business community is growing. Just a few turns before Keystone Ski Resort are two new businesses: Keystone Nutrition & Energy and Pat + Bear Macarons.
Here’s what to know about what’s new.
Keystone Nutrition & Energy
The founders of Keystone Nutrition & Energy, Garrett and Emma Hazley, are the type of couple who can’t sit still. The pair and their slew of dogs are always on the move, and they wanted to make something to provide an energy source for busy people like them that is not coffee or an energy drink.
Garrett Hazley described Keystone Nutrition & Energy as a health club largely targeted to people looking to refuel before any activities in the mountains. As someone who works in the ski industry, he said he knows how coffee- or energy drink-reliant people can be in Summit County. The couple wanted to introduce an alternative.
“We’re all caffeine-addicted, caffeine-driven people in the mountains, and it’s never healthy,” he said. “You’re always crashing. You always feel like crap.”

Keystone Nutrition & Energy uses plant caffeine derived from black and green tea in its “loaded teas,” which can also include things like aloe for hydration and vitamins. Additionally, they have protein shakes.
Emma Hazley said her love of health clubs began in Steamboat Springs, and she modeled her own after the Sundance Health Zone in Steamboat. She and Garrett Hazley said the team there helped them curate their health club. Garrett Hazley said in the short time they’ve been in the industry, they’ve learned how generous it is and how clubs across the state look to lift each other up and pass on what is working for them to others in the industry. He said these types of health clubs began popping up in Denver a while ago, and now there’s dozens. Because the clubs hadn’t quite hit Summit County yet, the Hazleys decided to be among the first to get the ball rolling.
This is not the Hazley’s first business venture in Summit County. Around two years ago, they started their ski bike company, Go Enjoy Outdoors, which is also in Keystone.
Garrett Hazley said the ultimate dream would be to find a way to combine the two businesses and have them under the same roof.
Shakes and teas at Keystone Nutrition & Energy range from $10 to $17. Currently, it is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday’s hours are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Sunday’s hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. They can be reached through their email, KeystoneNutritionEnergy@gmail.com. The business is located at 23024 U.S. Highway 6, Unit 204.
Keystone Nutrition & Energy will have an official grand with its downstairs neighbor, Pat + Bear Macarons on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Pat + Bear Macarons
Taking care of people through food runs in Emily Comer’s blood. Looking to calm herself down one day, she turned to what she loved, baking, and decided to try something different.
“Let’s try to make the world’s hardest cookie,” she recalls thinking. “Why not?”
The macaron, the cookie Comer tackled that day, is known for being tough to make due to the precision it mandates. One misstep has the ability to mess up a whole batch, she said.
She got on the macaron train that day and hasn’t gotten off since.
Comer started her macaron business, Pat + Bear Macarons, around four years ago. The name gives a nod to her dad, Pat, who she said is a wonderful home chef. “Bear” is Pat’s nickname for Emily.

Up until summer 2025, she sold her products at farmers markets, including the markets in Dillon and Denver. She also had a career in fine dining and restaurant management. When she had her son Levi, she wanted to get back into a kitchen doing what she loved. Levi is now 4, and might just be one of the youngest professional macaron taste-testers in the game. Comer said everything she has on her shelves currently is Levi-approved.
A single macaron at Pat + Bear Macaron costs $3, a pack of six costs $16 and a 12-pack costs $30. All macarons are gluten free. The shop is open Monday and Tuesday from noon to 4 p.m., and sometimes its open “by chance,” Comer said.

Both Keystone Nutrition & Energy and Pat + Bear are located at 23024 U.S. Highway 6 in Keystone.
