The Sapphire Point Overlook trail and parking area will close June 2-20 for maintenance, according to a U.S. Forest Service news release. Sapphire Point, a popular overlook with views of the Dillon Reservoir, is the most-reserved recreation site in the Dillon Ranger District.
Maintenance work will include renovations in the parking lot, adding event parking spaces and updating traffic flow entering the parking area from Swan Mountain Road. The recreation path running by Sapphire Point will remain open, but users should exercise caution.
Last year, Sapphire Point had 625 reservations, and the release stated it is popular for small weddings, with multiple bookings common on a single day. The half-mile loop trail and two overlook sights remain open to the public during even reservations.
The release stated the closure is necessary for public safety. For more information, contact the Dillon Ranger District at 970-468-5400.
