And just like that the 2025 Colorado track and field season has entered its final week.

After numerous meets, big performances and school records, the Summit High School track and field team will send a solid group of athletes to the Colorado High School Activities Association’s Track and Field State Championships from Thursday, May 15, through Saturday, May 17.

Leading the group of athletes into the competition will be state meet veteran senior Ella Hagen. Hagen has been competing at the meet since she was a freshman and will look to cap off her high school running career with a fifth individual state title.

Hagen most notably won the Class 4A girls 1600-meter run in 2023, crossing the finish line in awe. While battling sickness last track season, Hagen took sixth in the 1600-meter run and third in the 3200-meter run. With one last opportunity to compete at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood, Hagen will be competing in all three individual distance events — the 800, 1600, and 3200.

Hagen comes into the meet ranked the highest in the girls 3200-meter run where she is seeded fourth overall (10:49.33) out of 18 total qualified athletes. Hagen will compete in the 3200-meter run on Thursday morning, May 15, before competing in the 800-meter run (6th seed) on Friday afternoon and the 1600-meter (8th seed) on the final day on Saturday.

Hagen will be joined by fellow distance athlete senior Josh Shriver. Like Hagen, Shriver will compete in all three individual distance events over the three-day meet. Shriver will look to improve upon his placings at the state meet last spring where he took fifth in the 1600-meter run and 12th in the 3200-meter run.

Throughout the season, Shriver has steadily proven himself as a formable contender for the top few spots on the podium. Most recently, Shriver became the 4A Western Slope League champion in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs. Shriver will lean upon the confidence and knowledge he gained from the league meet throughout his final weekend competing at the high-school level.

Beyond the distance events, Summit will have a trio of athletes in the girls hurdling events. Leading the group of talented and versatile athletes will be junior Faith Fox. Fox will be competing in the 100-meter-hurdles, the 300-meter hurdles and the long jump at her third state track and field meet.

Last season, Fox jumped up a spot from her freshman year, taking fourth overall in the 300-meter hurdles. This spring, Fox hopes to jump up a few more spots in order to finish within the top three in the 300-meter hurdles.

Outside of her prime event, Fox will look to qualify for her first 100-meter hurdle final and place as highly as she can in her long jump debut at the state meet.

Joining Fox in the both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles will be two freshman phenoms in Ruby Snyder and Avery Russer. Both athletes have quickly become mainstays for the Summit track and field team throughout the season, lending their talents to relays as well field and track events.

Snyder comes into meet ranked seventh in the 100-meter hurdles and 11th in the 300-meter hurdles. Russer ranks 15th in the 100-meter hurdles and 17th 300-meter hurdles

Snyder will also compete in the girls high jump where she is seeded sixth.

On top of their individual events, Hagen, Shriver, Fox, Snyder and Russer may compete for the Tigers in several relays. Summit qualified a total of four relays including a girls 4×200, a boys 4×800 and a boys and girls 4×400.

Summit will also be represented by several Special Olympic and Paralympic athletes at the state competition.

After becoming partially paralyzed in a mountain bike crash last summer, Summit High School sophomore Jamison Lee will compete in the Paralympic 100- and 200-meter dash races on Thursday morning. Other Paralympic/Special Olympic athletes include Summit Clark, Sonja Waldes, Samantha Trevino, Kimberly Sorto Lopez, Yamilet Avila Rojas and Jonah Miklas.
