Pride events are back in Summit County, from a $5 showing of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” at Breckenridge’s Riverwalk Center to free yoga with a live DJ at The Block Hotel and Commons. Local organizations, including Breck Create and Friends of the Dillon Ranger District, are sponsoring many of this year’s events.

Pride events in Breckenridge

Boasting one of Summit County’s larger Pride lineups, Breckenridge’s events are all programmed and produced by Breck Create, in conjunction with other organizations like Denver’s Sapphic Social Club and Mountain Pride.

“Not only is it a big fun party, safe space for queer people to come and gather and have visibility and community and connection, but it’s also a really important moment to recognize the past oppressions and challenges that the community has faced,” said Karlie McLaughlin, BreckCreate’s senior director of external relations.

Breckenridge Pride will last from June 11-13, and festivities kick off with performances at the Ridge Street Arts Square. On Thursday at 5 p.m., MotherDaddy — a Denver-based drag performer — will be doing an interactive, all-ages story time. Meanwhile, the soul band DOGTAGS will perform, and attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a colorful, collaborative art project. For guests seeking a more active pride experience, at 5:30 p.m., the Gore Range Gravity Alliance will be hosting an inclusive mountain bike ride, which ends at DOGTAGS’ show. Later on, BreckCreate and Breck Film will be presenting a $5 showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie will begin at 9 p.m. at the Riverwalk Center.

The next morning at 9 a.m., a nature walk and workshop will be held on the Riverwalk lawn, teaching attendees about LGBTQ+ identities in ancient indigenous culture. Other events on June 12 include a “sew your own pride flag” workshop and a party on the Riverwalk lawn, featuring queer-owned vendors, as well as music, bingo and lawn games. At 5 p.m., there will be a march down Main Street, followed by a free concert by the Velveteers at the Riverwalk Center and an after-party at RMU.

Rounding out the weekend, June 13 will begin with a 8 a.m. bike ride from Frisco to Breckenridge. The ride is free, with a suggested donation of $10. Afterwards, there will be a 9 a.m. free fitness class on the Riverwalk lawn, a 10 a.m. dance session, an 11:30 a.m. drag brunch and a 3 p.m. showing of the film “Just Kids,” in collaboration with Breck Film. The movie focuses on transgender youth in states with restrictions on gender-affirming care. Two final events take place at 5 p.m.: a “Heated Rivalry” craft night and a free “sip and stroll” scavenger hunt along Main Street.

Pride events in Silverthorne

The Block Hotel and Commons’ 5th annual Pride celebration will take place on Saturday, June 20, and will feature various events from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. All events are located at the hotel. General admission tickets cost $45 and can be purchased online at The Block’s website.

Starting the morning off, the hotel will be hosting 9 a.m. yoga with Anna Curtis of Hado Flow, a local wellness organization. Later on at 4 p.m., Breckenridge’s Chopping Block Salon will be hosting a “gender bender beauty bar,” offering up drag-inspired makeovers. The night will end with a charity drag show beginning at 7 p.m. Residents and professional drag performers alike will perform to a live DJ.

Ticket proceeds from all of The Block’s events will go to Mountain Pride and Bee the Vibe, as do a percentage of bar sales.

Pride events in Frisco

Friends of the Dillon Ranger District and Mountain Pride will be hosting a pride hike, starting at the Rainbow Lake Trailhead at 5:30 p.m. on June 30. Afterward, guests are invited to Highside Brewing for conversation and community building. The hike and social hour are both part of a summer-long “Hike with Pride” series that began last month.

The hike is free and interested parties may RSVP on Friends of the Dillon Ranger District’s website.
